This week we’re diving into the benefits of the Montessori Baby Working table!
So for starters, I’ve used this table in practice in both the home setting and the school environment and it is so beautiful to see the empowerment opportunities that it provides.
Imagine this…
Your baby is newly cruising and crawls over to your purposefully placed Montessori work table. He pulls out the chair and carefully sits, as that is your routine for Montessori lessons or work. You offer a beginner open/close lesson. Your child is so excited to try for himself. And there he goes. You then take a step back to let him work and he does.
I’ve seen that scenario over and over when the table is introduced and a part of their environment from early on!
So here are some benefits to the Montessori work table:
- It provides a purposeful space for Montessori work
- Provides a size appropriate space for easy access to work (gives our kids a power to choose)
- Simple, beautiful, and size appropriate furniture piece (a very Montessori principle)
- Allows for consistency within routine within their familiar environment (aka. bring work to table and return to shelf)
When to buy the Montessori work table you ask?!
I would say that it’s never too early to offer the table in your environment. But I would say that the opportune time to begin looking for your own Montessori Work Table would be just as your child shows signs of sitting. That way as soon as their little muscles are strong enough to sit unattended, you’re ready to go.
For cost effectiveness, what else works as low tables?
- Coffee table: with size appropriate chair added)
- Some open shoe shelves: don’t forget to measure and find an appropriate chair
If there’s anything that I suggest to have for Infancy and Toddlerhood (regardless of whether or not you’re implementing Montessori in the home), it’s a child-size working table.
This is because Montessori Baby Working Table is the perfect space for materials, lesson giving, coloring, painting, cooking, and anything else you’d like to try with your baby!
I recently bought the Sprout Kids Montessori table with convertible legs and I LOVE the quality and durability for my space. Click here to check it out.
